Pre-Attack Indicators
Usually before an attack happens there are some “signs” that something is about to happen. I am providing this list for education. It is not an exhaustive list. Also the presence of any of these is not “permission” to go crazy on someone. If you ever get a “bad” feeling about a situation, it is best to remove yourself from the situation. Body language is an art that is not mastered with a quick read. INDICATORS DOES NOT EQUATE TO WILL DO. These are warning signals that things might be heating up.
- Hands being held above the waistline or clinched.
- Standing in a bladed or “attack” stance.
- If someone is standing on the balls of their feet, it usually indicated they are ready to respond to something quickly.
- Wild arm movement
- Unexplained rapid breathing
- Also someone taking a big deep breath
- An empty stare aka “thousand yard stare”
- Teeth clenching or dringing
- Snarling of lips.
- Face flush red.
By keeping people of out attack range of you also will create a little bit of time. It will force someone to move into an appropriate range.
Also make a practice of watching people when you are out and about. See what you can figure out about them without asking. Be careful not to stare or be creepy.
All of this takes practice. Again to repeat …just because someone is exhibiting some pre-attack indicators is not an appropriate reason to attack someone. It might be a good reason to relocate though. The best self-defense is detecting the risk and never needing to rely on any other training.
