Improvised Weapons

Improvised weapons essential come in two categories: 1) Deliberately Assembled – prison shank 2) Found in your environment and . I am focusing on weapons that are found in your environment. My goal is for you to think about what is around you or even something on you that can be potentially used as a force multiplier. This will be far from exhaustive, but will be designed to engage your mind to think of possibilities – if ever needed.

Have you ever considered that your cell phone could be a weapon? I saw an YouTube video where the phone was held like a happen and the corner of the phone was a weapon. Your phone may break but if you need it, use it

Pens and pencils are awesome weapons. They can be used to gouge the eyes, or ears. Even potentially stab the attacker in the neck. You can purchase a “tactical” pen on Amazon. The are more robust and can be carried almost everywhere. I have carried one through airports and even the security going into Tibet!

Glass bottles can be broken and used as a weapon to slice someone.

Any heavy object around you can become a club or an object to throw at your attacker. An example would be fire extinguishers.

Watches. A simple wrist watch can be turned into a improvisational knucklebuster by positioning the the face of it across your middle knuckles, while holding the band or bracelet inside.

Belts. Belts can be used to in a variety of ways. With the proper training, it can used to capture a hand or foot. For everyone else, you can strike them with the belt portion of the belt.

More to the point, when you enter any environment, first identify several exits, but after that think about all the things around you that could be used as a weapon in a self-defense situation.
